We have purchased the old Brown Hotel in Springer, New Mexico, with plans to renovate the building in order to open an art gallery and an artist retreat. The art gallery is now open on weekends as of April 15, 2022. The artist retreat is Phase 2. Renovations are currently underway on the second floor of the building to prepare the guest rooms in anticipation of the artist retreat portion of the business. As rooms are completed, artwork will be displayed in them as part of the gallery when no guests are staying in them.
The gallery is open Saturday from 10am to 4pm and Sunday from noon to 4pm and by appointment during the week.
All artists exhibiting in the gallery will submit their artwork on a consignment basis.
The gallery commission on any artwork sold is 30%.
Accepted artists will be asked to sign an agreement with the gallery and will be required to provide a W4 form. If you sell $600 or more in one year, a 1099 will be sent to you for tax reporting purposes.
Artists will be paid on the first of the month for any sales made in the previous month. A statement of all items sold, quantity, and price will be provided, and the location of the collector purchasing the artwork (if possible). This should allow artists to keep up with inventory without having to perform a physical inventory each month.
All artist accepted to exhibit their work in the gallery will be responsible for shipping their artwork to the gallery. Artwork may also be delivered to the gallery in person by appointment. If for some reason artwork needs to be returned to the artist (e.g., something is not selling, artwork needs to be exchanged for newer work, or the artist doesn't want to exhibit any longer), the artist will be responsible for shipping costs or may come to the gallery, by appointment, to pick up artwork.
The gallery will provide an inventory upon an artist's request. An artist may come to the gallery to take inventory by appointment.
The gallery will take care of any packaging and shipping if a customer wishes to have work shipped to them.
The gallery will take care of all sales tax reporting.
Artists may submit five (5) digital photographs of their artwork by emailing jane@laughingcrowartisans.com. Please try to keep the size of each image to 3MB or less. The smaller the file, the faster it loads and the less storage space it takes on our website. Please provide a brief artist statement (which will be displayed next to your work in the gallery and on the artists page on our website), a description of each artwork (e.g., what inspired you to paint or create it or a special technique you used or perhaps a feeling you hope to invoke in the viewer), the price (don't forget the gallery takes 30%), the medium, and the year created (not required). You may include your Instagram and your website as long as you are not selling your artwork for less than you are selling it in the gallery. That would make the gallery look bad. You will be notified no later than February 1, 2022, if you are accepted. You may be asked to submit other artworks. If you are not accepted, you are always welcome to submit new work at a later time.
Laughing Crow Artisans has an Art Store Fronts website which will allow us to sell artwork of our exhibitors online. You will be given the opportunity to opt-out when you sign the Artist Consignment Agreement (which will be provided to you once you have submitted your work and are accepted).
This is a great opportunity for artists that sell prints as the company that fulfills our print orders (with choices of size, media, framing) takes care of everything and ships it directly to the customer.
If your art work is a painting or drawing and you wish to hang it on the gallery walls, it must be framed with hanging hardware. Gallery canvases that have been painted on the edges do not have to be framed, but still must have hanging hardware. Prints or originals that are not framed may be exhibited in print bins and must be packaged with a hard backer or foam core backing and placed in a clear bag. The largest print bin will hold up to 20 x 30-inch package.
